LA HABRA HISTORY
        On September 8, 1771, MISSION SAN GABRIEL was founded, the fourth California mission established and the center of Spanish control in the Los Angeles Basin, including the La Habra area.  The area was previously inhabited by the TONGVA Native Americans, who lived in an area covering 4,000 square miles of Southern California and numbered approximately 5,000 when the mission was established.
